Children Thinking Mathematically (DCSF).

Chapter 3 of the final report of the Williams Maths Review (DCSF, 2008) featured our work on children’s mathematical graphics and made a number of recommendations for those working in this phase and recommended that the DCSF commission materials on children’s mathematical graphics and mathematical development.

The DCSF commissioned Elizabeth Carruthers and Maulfry Worthington to write this new publication (with the exception of pages 47-50 from the DCSF, PSRN website). Chapter 3 of the booklet focuses on children’s mathematical graphics and there are further examples threaded throughout.

Researching Effective CPD for Mathematics Education (RECME) This 2-year, nationally funded project is the largest UK research project into CPD in Mathematics Education to date. It is led by Project Director Dr. Els De Geest, and supported by the National Centre for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics.

We are delighted that our CPD initiative - local Children’s Mathematics Network groups - is featured in the final report (with a focus on the Bristol CMN group) as one of six successful CPD initiatives.

DCSF: Mark Making Matters: ‘The booklet also explores how an improved understanding of the importance of mark making can strengthen provision for CLL and PSRN. It will illustrate how children's confidence in themselves as writers and as mathematical thinkers, can be promoted through the introduction of children's mathematical graphics’, DCSF: The National Strategies
